OUR MISSION

The mission of the San Diego 2024 Flood Long Term Recovery Group is to provide recovery services to individuals and families affected by the January 2024 flood in San Diego County. Services will be provided regardless of the individuals’ race or ethnicity, creed, gender identity, disability, citizenship status, or religious preference. The goal of the San Diego 2024 Flood Long Term Recovery Group is to see community members recover to the fullest extent possible from the disaster.

  • Ellen Nash

    Co-Chair

    Ellen Nash serves as the Co-Chair on the Long Term Recovery Group Executive Board with extensive knowledge and experience in HR.  She is a principal at Ewing-Nash Group, a parent educational advocacy, HR and financial services specialist.  Previously, she served as HR management for UC San Diego Health System and San Diego State University.  Ellen is the Chair for the Black American Political Association of California San Diego Chapter and Chair for the Leon Williams San Diego County Human Relations Commission.  She is honored to receive the 2024 Advocacy Champion Award from the Urban League of San Diego County.

  • Thedis Miller

    Co-Chair

    Food Insecurity Co-Chair

    Thedis Miller serves as the Co-Chair of the Long Term Recovery Group Executive Board.  She is also the President and CEO of SEW, Inc with over twenty years of experience in human resources, business development, call center operations, and customer service.  Thedis successfully led large teams for projects for IBM, Nissan and Boeing while at AT&T. She has served on the boards of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) and IRF and is currently a member of BAPAC San Diego.  Thedis is a certified Project Manager and holds an Ed.M. in Education & Psychology and a B.A. in Education from Rutgers University.

  • Dr. Jaleh Dodson

    VICE CHAIR

    Dr. Jaleh Dodson serves as the Vice-Chair of the Long Term Recovery Group Executive Board.  She is JIREH Providers’ Health Ambassador and Vice President of the WordWise Bible College.

  • Kelly Lyndon

    TREASURER

    Kelly Lyndon serves as the Treasurer for the Long Term Recovery Group Executive Board.  She has over 28 years of experience as a High-Tech Engineering Executive. She is currently working for TRC as a Research Engineer at TRC leading field pilots to cost-effectively electrify homes. Kelly holds a Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Northeastern University and a Masters in Systems/Software Engineering from Boston University. Moreover, Kelly currently serves as the Co-Chair to the San Diego Building Electrification Coalition and an advisor to the Urban Sustainability Coalition.

  • Valerie Brown

    Unmet Needs Chair

    Valerie Brown currently serves as the Chair of the Unmet Needs Committee for the Long Term Recovery Group.  She is a Subject Matter Expert in Disaster Philanthropy and Long Term Recovery and supports After the Fire USA as their California Wildfire Resilience Fellow.  Ms. Brown began her work in the field of disaster recovery after the 2007 San Diego Wildfires, which destroyed over 1,500 homes, coordinating the local long-term recovery efforts for the communities of Rancho Bernardo, Escondido, Poway, and Rancho Santa Fe. 

     She is currently the Chair of San Diego County VOAD and Vice Chair for CA VOAD, most recently serving as the Chair of the 2020 CZU Fire Santa Cruz County Long Term Recovery Group (2021 – 2022).  She has more than 15 years of LTRG experience in San Diego County, with flood, earthquake, and wildfires and has supported LTRGs in Maui (2023 Fires), Florida (2022 Hurricane Ian and 2024 Hurricane Milton), Colorado (2021 Marshall Fire), and multiple LTRGs in 4 states after the 2020 Western Wildfires.


  • Samantha Williams

    Spiritual-Emotional Wellness Chair

    Samantha Williams is the Chair for the Spiritual-Emotional Wellness Committee with the Long Term Recovery Group.  As a Family Nurse Practitioner with over 20+ years of nursing and public health experience,  Samantha is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of JIREH Providers.  She is the recipient of the 2024 Health Equity Award from the Urban League of San Diego County. 

    JIREH Providers is a pioneering mobile community clinic based in San Diego, undertaking the task to help bridge the gap in health equity among communities of color. We focus on key health initiatives such as maternal and infant health, COVID-19 awareness, health equity, and advocacy to end violence against the Black community. Our unique approach centers around delivering essential services like immunizations, health screenings, and education directly to the community, where it’s needed most.


  • Angie Landavazzo

    DCM Co-Chair

    Angie Landavazo serves as the Co-Chair for the LTRG’s Disaster Case Management Committee.  She is currently one of the Community Recovery Team’s FEMA-funded Disaster Case Management Program’s supervisors and has a background in community outreach with her congregation.  As a staunch advocate for San Diegans and her community, especially the Latino community, Angie has championed change in the county to support her community. Her home was also impacted by the 2024 San Diego Floods. 

  • Jamila Hadi

    DCM Co-Chair

    Jamila Hadi serves as the Co-Chair for the LTRG’s Disaster Case Management Committee.  She is a San Diego city native and has a background in healthcare and community health education and equity.  She is the Community Recovery Team’s FEMA-funded Disaster Case Management Program Manager, overseeing a team of 12 Disaster Case Managers.

  • Eddie Price

    Construction Co-Chair

    Eddie serves as the Co-Chair for the Construction Committee.  A Native of California, Eddie has been at the forefront of Economic Equity for more than 25 years.  Realizing there was a lack of economic activity involving African Americans, he started the San Diego Urban Economic Corporation.  He currently serves as the Community Development Officer for GRID Alternatives, an international non-profit Solar installation company and perfect fit for Mr. Price with their triple bottom line of "People, Planet, Employment".

  • Karl Ports

    Construction Co-Chair

    Karl Ports currently serves as Co-Chair of the LTRG’s Construction Committee.  He worked for nearly 30 years as a Designer/Project Manager for Turpin and Rattan Engineering in San Diego, CA.  Karl has served as the Vice Chair of San Diego County VOAD for 5 years, representing Cal PAC, the Southern California disaster branch for the United Methodist Church’s Committee on Relief (UMCOR).  He has volunteered with UMCOR since Hurricane Katrina in 2006.

  • Karen Clay

    Food Insecurity Chair

    Karen Clay serves as the Chair for the Food Insecurity Committee.  She is the Founder and President of I Love to Glean, a non-profit organization that facilitates food recovery systems to boost the capacity to recover and distribute otherwise wasted food.  In 2018 to 2020, she co-led the South San Diego Food Insecurity Network with the City of Chula Vista while also working as the Logistics Coordinator with Senior Gleaners of San Diego County.
